I am the sort of person who always needs a book. In fact, I realize that I need at least TWO books: one to read (ahh, the pleasure of lying down on my sofa at the end of the afternoon with a delicious book to read); and one to WRITE. Some writers I know take breaks in between book projects, but that doesn't seem to be my way. You know there are women who always need a boyfriend? Well, I alwaysneed a book. Two books.

It's funny that you compared a book to a boyfriend, since a good book is, in many ways, your ultimate companion. I've just finished reading the third book in Johnathan Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy, titled Ptolemy's Gate. I was disappointed in the ending, and felt that the issues present were not entirely resolved. My hopes for the characters have all been demolished within the final chapter. I felt l read more than 1000 pages for nothing, and that the ending killed any good memories I had. No plot will go according to your hopes, except in Harry Potter. Sure, some of the minor good characters were killed, but all the bad ones were killed, and the people on the "good" side got a happy ending. At least you retain your happy memories with Harry P....
