So we're launching What World Is Left at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23 at Marianopolis College here in Montreal. YIPPEE! Now I have to say I'm in another phase of the writing life: book promotion! I'm getting a lot of help from my friends at Orca Books and also from the communications officer at Marianopolis, Kathryn Haralambous. Kathryn just phoned to let me know that CBC RadioOne wants to interview my mum and I, likely on the day of the launch. As you may know, the new book is based loosely on my mum's experience as a teenager in Theresienstadt, a Nazi concentration camp. I hope my mum will be able to handle the busy-ness and the pressure of being interviewed. She is nearly 80 and until recently, never discussed what happened to her in the camp.
As for me, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the work associated with promoting a new book. But I know it's an important part of the process. However, I do miss the actual writing. I have about an hour or so before I head to school to turn back into a teacher, so I'm going to treat myself to something delicious: an hour to work on my latest manuscript.
So if you're in Montreal on October 23, do your best to join us at the launch! My mum has agreed to say a few words, and I'll be reading, of course. Something tells me it's going to be a very moving event!!
