We all have our weaknesses and though I hate to admit it, mine might be THINKING!! I'm way better at DOING!! (If you know me, you'll know that I am a very active person.) So you can imaginethat I took it a little hard when my editor, Sarah Harvey, at Orca Book Publishers, had a look at what I've been working on lately and told me that though she likes the concept, she felt I needed to do some more THINKING!!
YIKES!!! HELP!!!
At first, I was a little discombobbled (not a real word, but it's based on a word I like: "discombobulated")... but then I took a little time to sit with the discombobulation (that is a real word, by the way). And then when that got hard to do, I went back to the computer and had a careful look at what I've done so far on the project. And guess what? When I was sitting at the computer, feeling a little anxious, something came to me: something about the relationship between my two characters... and I think that new thought is going to help me write a better, more textured book.
So I hope that wherever you are, you're getting through your own hurdles. Sometimes, a little discombobulation is good for the soul!
