Three Amigas!

IMG_1523.jpgThat's me in today's pic, with my two amigas -- fellow writers Jane Barclay and Lori Weber . They were here last night for salmon lasagna. And as usual, we spent the evening comparing notes about our personal and professional lives. Jane (that is her to the left) is gearing up to launch her latest picture book, Proud as a Peacock, Brave as a Lion (Tundra). Lori (that's her in the middle) has been promoting her new YA novel If You Live Like Me (Lobster).

The three of us all have books that have been submitted by our publishers for the Quebec Writers Federation Children's Writing Prize. Three other Quebec writers' books have also been submitted. Of the six, only three will make the short list. So we vowed that no matter what happens, we will remain "three amigas"!!

On another note, click here  to read my story in this week's Maclean's Magazine. It's about dads who fall apart when their kids move away.

And on another note: that little black and white kitten is still hanging out in our 'hood. He (it turns out he is a he) seems to have a taste for smoked salmon. Did I tell you I have a bad allergy to cats? Even so, that little guy has worked his way into my heart. Okay then, time to get back to my manuscript. Have a great weekend wherever you are!!

Aren't women just like wine? We get more beautiful with age as our confidence grows and we learn to be happiest with the simple things in life, like dinner with good friends. Monique makes a wicked salmon lasagna and is the most gracious host. These dinners feed us in many ways because we share so much. Until next time ....
